The cutest of Yuko Tokuda’s Ceramic Japan vase designs, the Still Green Jam Jar is so compact, it will fit in the smallest of display spaces. Add a sprig of flowers for a pop of color and it can brighten any corner of a shelf or desktop.
We love the way Tokuda interprets everyday vessels into whimsical artworks that also showcase Japanese craftsmanship. The minimalist appearance of this petite jam-jar-shaped vase may seem simple, but like its larger Water Jug and Bottle siblings, it illustrates incredible artisanship. To produce the hollow construction and silhouette involves precision casting and firing that only the most meticulous of craftspeople can achieve.
Ceramic Japan brings together contemporary designers with traditional ceramists in Seto, Aichi Prefecture, a region with a history of porcelain dating back to the 8th century. Porcelain clay is still sourced from the prefecture’s mountainous landscape and was originally fired using timber from local woodland. Artisans today use age-old techniques, now refined to perfection by modern equipment, making Ceramic Japan’s minimalist products a combination of innovative design and traditional craftsmanship.
