Ceramic Japan’s Still Green Water Jug vase brings together contemporary minimalism and abstract design with outstanding Japanese porcelain craftsmanship. Designed by Yuko Tokuda, its tubular silhouette has a gently curved base, turning its playful 2D aesthetic into an objet d’art that can stand on the slimmest of bookshelves. The jug’s spout is left open for a single bloom, while its handle makes it easy to lift. Eye-catching and clever, it is both art and a bud vase in a deceptively simple design that takes incredibly skilled artisanship to produce. In fact, we have seen nothing quite like it anywhere else.
The Still Green Water Jug is the largest of a family of three designs, to see others, visit the Ceramic Japan series.
Ceramic Japan brings together contemporary designers with traditional ceramists in Seto, Aichi Prefecture, a region with a history of porcelain dating back to the 8th century. Porcelain clay is still sourced from the prefecture’s mountainous landscape and was originally fired using timber from local woodland. Artisans today use age-old techniques, now refined to perfection by modern equipment, making Ceramic Japan’s minimalist products a combination of innovative design and traditional craftsmanship.
