MINO-YAKI TOKUSA WHITE PLATTER

Regular price £65.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

A contemporary take on Tokusa, a traditional Japanese pattern inspired by horsetail grass pattern, this white platter is among our favorite Mino Yaki pieces.

The soft blue stripes that radiate from its center are patterned by the pooling of the glaze in subtle indentations of the porcelain. The undulating edges of the lines echo the silhouettes of tall stems of wild Tokusa grass, a symbol of abundance and wealth in Japan. And at 5.5 cm high, the platter elevates any dish or table display.

See our Mino-yaki Tokusa Blue Platter for a slightly more dramatic piece, and visit our Mino-yaki collection for other beautiful ceramics from Gifu.

Mino-yaki, believed to be the oldest form of artistic pottery produced in Japan, dates back to the Nara Period 710-794. Produced in the old Mino Province, in present-day Gifu Prefecture, it became popular for traditional tea ceremony vessels. Today, the styles of Mino-yaki are as varied as they are beautiful — from the warm rustic glazes of hand-thrown traditional Kiso Seto, Black Seto, Shino and Oribe ware to the soft pastels of modern tableware.
