BEAUTY OF BOWLS
Bowls hold a quiet importance in Japanese daily life.
Used from morning to evening — for rice, soup, tea, or small shared dishes — they are among the most familiar objects at the table. Simple in form and constant in role.
Such an everyday presence shapedshow bowls are made and how we choose them. The weight in the hand, the curve of the rim, their texture, their decoration. And over time, they often become personal. A favourite bowl for rice. Special ones kept for guests. Treasured heirlooms brought out only on certain occasions.
This collection brings together a selection of vintage Japanese bowls, all from the Showa Era. You’ll find lacquerware alongside ceramic pieces, each reflecting different materials, techniques, and ways of use.
Some were made for formal settings, others casual for daily use. All show signs of being handled, cared for, and kept.
