MINO-YAKI TOKUSA BLUE PLATTER

Regular price £65.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

A striking navy centerpiece, the Tokusa blue platter is inspired by a traditional Japanese pattern of horsetail grass. Its bold stripes that radiate from its center are subtly indented to reveal the deep near-black underglaze of the porcelain.

We love how the undulating edges of the lines echo the silhouettes of tall stems of wild Tokusa grass, a symbol of abundance and wealth in Japan. And at 5.5 cm high, the platter elevates any dish or table display.

See our Mino-yaki Tokusa White Platter for a gentler piece, and visit our Mino-yaki collection for other beautiful ceramics from Gifu.

Mino-yaki, believed to be the oldest form of artistic pottery produced in Japan, dates back to the Nara Period 710-794. Produced in the old Mino Province, in present-day Gifu Prefecture, it became popular for traditional tea ceremony vessels. Today, the styles of Mino-yaki are as varied as they are beautiful — from the warm rustic glazes of hand-thrown traditional Kiso Seto, Black Seto, Shino and Oribe ware to the soft pastels of modern tableware.
