The real beauty of Hatashikki’s Soji Hako Rain Box series lies in the wood grain. The natural patterns, created by Hatashikki’s unique technique of turning vertically cut wood, are so charming, they barely need embellishment. Flawlessly hand-finished to a silky smooth touch and subtly accented with a glimmer of gold lines, these pieces highlight the truly impeccable skills of traditional artisanship.
Established in 1930 in Yamanaka, Ishikawa Prefecture, Hatashikki are makers of traditional Japanese urushi lacquerware with well over 80 years of artisanal experience. Today, even for its contemporary lines, its items are still hand turned using vertically cut Japanese wood - a technique unique to Yamanaka lacquerware - which leaves them less prone to warping, shock resistant and with a striking grain pattern.
