A wintry design for a warming drink, or an apt vessel for a chilled summer beverage, Ceramic Japan’s Snowman Sake set is made from the whitest of Seto porcelain. Designer Kaichiro Yamada brings a hint of playfulness and warmth to a minimalist aesthetic — a delicate balance that is so quintessentially Japanese.
For heated sake, create a snowman by stacking the cups on top of the bottle to keep the beverage warm before serving. The two cups fit perfectly — the smaller slots in the bottle lip to seal if off, the larger is flipped over and placed on top for extra insulation. So practical in use, yet also such a beautiful objet to display anywhere in the home.
Ceramic Japan brings together contemporary designers with traditional ceramists in Seto, Aichi Prefecture, a region with a history of porcelain dating back to the 8th century. Porcelain clay is still sourced from the prefecture’s mountainous landscape and was originally fired using timber from local woodland. Artisans today use age-old techniques, now refined to perfection by modern equipment, making Ceramic Japan’s minimalist products a combination of innovative design and traditional craftsmanship.
