Maki Baxter's Curve Tumblers are hand-thrown on the wheel and hand-glazed, making each one unique. Their smooth curved forms are comforting to cup in the hands, with glimpses of soft throwing lines purposely peeking through a rich, dripping, brushed glaze. Maki describes the glaze as citrus blue — the undertones of an aquamarine almost luminous beneath browns and greens. Each one is fired twice and brushed with four layers of glaze.

Maki Baxter is an internationally minded artist born in California, raised in Tokyo and artistically inspired by Minimalism, Brutalism and the interpretation of shapes in nature. A Boston Tufts graduate, she worked within the luxury jewellery industry in New York before moving to Kent in the UK, where she pursued a personal passion for pottery.
Her unique works combine clean lines and stark colours with the warmth of natural, smooth and curved forms. Each is handmade and stamped with the kanji character representing her name Maki, a kanji that also describes a decorative Japanese lacquering technique that combines shell, metal and ivory.
