SABURO SHARI GLASS PLATTER

Regular price £190.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

Artisan Saburo somehow makes glassware that is sturdy, yet diaphanous in appearance. His Shari Shari series takes its name from the sound of ice being shaved to make kakigori, a Japanese frosty summer dessert. The Shari Shari Platter’s gentle frosted effect is created by thousands of tiny bubbles skillfully trapped in the glass. All hand crafted, each platter is unique and stunning to see up close — like magical pools of blue-purple-tinted ice.

Based in Yatsuomachi in Toyama, a prefecture famous for its glass production, Saburo focuses on tableware centerpieces inspired by Lake Biwa, a place close to its artisans Mitsuhiko and Yuki Nakata's hearts, and imbued with Japanese culture. Colors are developed after much experimentation, and all the works are kiln formed, involving a meticulous process of temperature controlled firing, sanding, moulding and re-firing.
