The previous owner of these delightful Arita porcelain sake bottles, says she always liked them because of their subtly triangular shape and modern "almost Scandinavian" style. Once the owner of a small restaurant, she had several, one of which she kept herself to use as a vase.
The bottle has a round base, with sides softly flattened to form a triangular opening at the top. The pattern of crosses, dots and lines is indented, allowing glaze to pool inside and form defined marks of deep blue. Each one is hand-painted with glaze in purposely wide strokes, creating an extra dimension of light and dark blue lines.
