MINO-YAKI TATARA DISH

Regular price £15.00

The arabesque edges to the Mino-yaki Tatara dish give it a floral appearance that we find sumptuous, yet also refined. Tatara is a Japanese hand-crafted slab-pottery technique that, here, produces an entirely flat base. Textured with a weave-like pattern and hand-glazed in a spicy mustard yellow, deep green or rich Agean blue, these lightweight dishes are perfect for plating special sweets and beautiful as trinket trays. For a large plate version, also see our Mino-Yaki Tatara Platter.

Mino-ware is lightweight and durable — ideal for everyday use. To see more Mino porcelain items, visit our Mino-Yaki collection.

Believed to the oldest form of artistic pottery produced in Japan, Mino-yaki dates as far back as the Nara Period 710-794. Produced in the old Mino Province, in present-day Gifu Prefecture, it became popular for traditional tea ceremony vessels. Today, the styles of Mino-yaki are as varied as they are beautiful — from the warm rustic glazes of hand-thrown traditional Kiso Seto, Black Seto, Shino and Oribe ware to the soft pastels of modern tableware.
