A hint of colour can make simplicity stunning. The Watanabe Thoki Bud Vases' sleek elegant forms bring together the purity of white porcelain with dashes of black, grey or off-white. For us, though, they are as much about texture as they are about aesthetics. The smooth glaze on matte porcelain and rounded shapes are inviting to the touch and there's something warm and unpretentious in their fluid forms and sturdy wide bases.
Each vase neck is hand dipped in glaze, with colours according to shape: splashes of white for this lower Flat vase; black for the ample Square Vase; grey for the long-necked Round Vase. They're like a family of three — it's hard to choose just one.
