Virtually an artwork, this large green handmade glass platter, to us, evokes friendly 1960s dinner parties with homemade desserts served to friends. Its decorative edge is a little floral, a little Scandi, while beneath its glossy finish is a textured mid-century-modern pattern of dots and lines. Hold it up to the light see it in its fully glory.
We also love that the series by Kamei, which sadly shuttered in the late 1980s, is called Ai - meaning indigo, possibly a reference to the green colour indigo dyeing also produced and a reference to an era when the words for blue in Japan was often used to describe the colour green. This particular shade of green was, apparently, historically popular in Japan.
See the Bamboo Green Glass Platter, another Kamei work, or our contemporary Lake Green Platter for a simpler piece.
