Absolutely one of our favorite items, the Ginkgo Leaf Soy Sauce Dish comes from a friend who recalls them used by her parents during her childhood. Dated around the 1940s, these Shigaraki stoneware small dishes were made by the Shouzaemon Kiln as serving ware for soy sauce or pickles. Each one is unique — handmade with three little feet to keep it sturdy, and glazed in blue over white for a soft gradient effect. We think that today, they make great little trinket dishes.

Shigaraki is one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns regions of Japan, with techniques that go as far back as prehistoric times. The slightly rustic look of these pieces remind us of our Asemi collection of contemporary Bizen, Iga-Yaki and Matsushiro ware.
