Afumi glass tableware is as dreamy as its inspiration. Glass artisan Saburo named this series of mosaic glassware after the old Japanese word for “freshwater lake.” The pattern features windows as clear as the water on a still lake, outlined with carefully chosen colours that cast striking shadows in the daylight. Every bowl, plate or dish is handmade and unique. We love this large dish as stunning as a glass serving platter, a low fruit bowl, or a decorative dining table centerpiece.
Based in Yatsuomachi in Toyama, a prefecture famous for its glass production, Saburo focuses on tableware centerpieces inspired by Lake Biwa, a place close to its artisans Mitsuhiko and Yuki Nakata's hearts, and imbued with Japanese culture. Colors are developed after much experimentation, and all the works are kiln formed, involving a meticulous process of temperature-controlled firing, sanding, moulding and re-firing.
