When we found these lidded bowls we fell in love with their unusual vibrancy. Deep purple peonies are contrasted with a sunny yellow in a Kochi-style glaze, made using a traditional Kiyomizu pottery technique of Kyoto.
A textural work, the blooms and leaves are hand-piped in clay and painted in coloured glazes. A decorative technique that originated in China, it's now one of the most lively forms of Japanese ceramic ware.
These pieces are from the mid to late Showa Era (1926-1989)
