Peaked like Mount Fuji, the Mino-Yaki Mountain bud vase's gently geometric design seems both classic and contemporary. Its snowy white glaze is silken to the touch and the perfect foil for a dramatic colourful bloom. For us, this is what minimalism is about — to evoke nature in its form and bring natural colour to any space.
The Mountain vase is one of three mini vase designs that were winners of the 2011 Tajimi City Mayor's award at the Gifu Prefecture Mino-Yaki New Works exhibition. Made in Tajima, the heart of Japan's decorative tile industry, each one is a glazed in a contemporary colour and designed to match any decor.

Mino-yaki dates as far back as the Nara Period 710-794. Produced in the old Mino Province, in present-day Gifu Prefecture, it became popular for traditional tea ceremony vessels. Today, the styles of Mino-yaki are as varied as they are beautiful — from the warm rustic glazes of hand-thrown traditional Kiso Seto, Black Seto, Shino and Oribe ware to the soft pastels of modern tableware.
