Lightweight, yet durable, Mino-yaki porcelain is ideal for everyday use. These petite plates are perfect for serving small dishes or displaying trinkets, but we do love to see them paired with our Trunk Design Ku Washi Incense.
Gently scalloped and hand-glazed, each of these saucers is unique. The glossy pools of the Indigo Blue offer a warm, rustic aesthetic, while a Dusky Blue sibling is matte with tiny flecks akin to stoneware. The Deep Grey sits somewhere in between, its flecks softened by a subtle sheen. To see our collection of paler shades, visit our Subtle collection.
Believed to the oldest form of artistic pottery produced in Japan, Mino-yaki dates as far back as the Nara Period 710-794. Produced in the old Mino Province, in present-day Gifu Prefecture, it became popular for traditional tea ceremony vessels. Today, the styles of Mino-yaki are as varied as they are beautiful — from the warm rustic glazes of hand-thrown traditional Kiso Seto, Black Seto, Shino and Oribe ware to the soft pastels of modern tableware.
