Designed by Mute, known for breathing new life into everyday items with modern aesthetics, the playful shape of Hatashikki's Koma Cup takes its inspiration from Japanese koma spinning tops. It's colorful lid helps keep your drink warm and doubles as a saucer, and each piece is hand-finished to the same exceptional standard of Hatashikki's traditional lacquerware items. Water resistant and handwashable, it's perfect for daily use.
Established in 1930 in Yamanaka, Ishikawa Prefecture, Hatashikki are makers of traditional Japanese urushi lacquerware with well over 80 years of artisanal experience. Today, even for its contemporary lines, its items are still hand turned using vertically cut Japanese wood - a technique unique to Yamanaka lacquerware - which leaves them less prone to warping, shock resistant and with a striking grain pattern.
