The Border Box series is made with the knowhow of Hatashikki's decades of woodworking experience. Every piece is exquisitely hand-finished to an unblemished smooth touch, and to the same standard of Hatashikki's traditional wares. The difference lies in new contemporary shapes and lively colours by the designers Mute. Each box has 3 stacking compartments and a lid, with coloring that allows the unique grain patterns of the wood to show through. Elegant, colorful, hand-washable and food safe, they are ideal for tidying away sweets, trinkets or any other small items.
Established in 1930 in Yamanaka, Ishikawa Prefecture, Hatashikki are makers of traditional Japanese urushi lacquerware with well over 80 years of artisanal experience. Today, even for its contemporary lines, its items are still hand turned using vertically cut Japanese wood - a technique unique to Yamanaka lacquerware - which leaves them less prone to warping, shock resistant and with a striking grain pattern.
