Simplicity at its best, the Straight Mug is all about natural colours, contrasting textures and comforting forms. Its straight sides ensure a generously sized cup, while an extra-wide rounded handle lets you slip your fingers through to cradle a warming beverage. Each one is hand-glazed and finished, with the tiny imperfections of artisanal work a deliberate wabi-sabi detail. Our favourite detail is the unglazed lip, a rustic touch of natural colour that highlights the texture of the clay.
The Straight Mug is made by Sakuzan in Gifu Prefecture, the heart of Mino-Yaki (Mino ware), believed to be among Japan’s oldest decorative pottery. Visit our Mino-Yaki Collection to discover more Gifu pieces.

Sakuzan was founded in the 1940s and works with 14 different kinds of clay and hundreds of glazes. It focuses on minimalist tableware in warm glazes and elegant contemporary forms, without compromising on traditional Japanese pottery techniques.
