Known as one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan, Shigaraki stoneware is among the nation's oldest pottery styles. This modern version has the extra warmth of a dip-glazed lip in natural white, speckled beige, deep green, or ocean blue. Each mug has a subtly swirled finish base that feels satiny to the touch. But what we love the most are their unusual bamboo-wrapped handles.
The previous owner of these cups thinks they are from the late 1970s, maybe the 80s. Bigger than a demitasse but smaller than a mug — they are the ideal size for a cup of warming, rich coffee.
