SABURO SHARI GLASS BOWL GRADATION M

Saburo’s handmade Shari Shari glass tableware is nostalgically inspired by kakigori, a traditional Japanese dessert of shaved ice, topped with colourful fruit syrup. Its "shari, shari" onomatopoeic name is a sound of summer — ice being ground into light flakes, ready to absorb its sweet flavoring. Within each Shari Shari dish are thousands of tiny bubbles frozen in the glass for a frosted aesthetic. We think this conical bowl gradation version is extra special, its delicate colour fading into clear glass — a little like sweet syrup melting into ice.

Based in Yatsuomachi in Toyama, a prefecture famous for its glass production, Saburo focuses on tableware centerpieces inspired by Lake Biwa, a place close to its artisans Mitsuhiko and Yuki Nakata's hearts, and imbued with Japanese culture. Colors are developed after much experimentation, and all the works are kiln formed, involving a meticulous process of temperature-controlled firing, sanding, moulding and re-firing.
