We absolutely fell in love with Watanabe Thoki’s Kakyu Flat Vases the second we saw them. Refreshingly unusual in design, these can transform a single flower or sprig of foliage into a beautiful objet d’art.
Each stoneware base is indented with the silhouette of a classic vase to house a shallow pool of water for a horizontally placed stem. Use a single bloom alone for a minimalist look, or raise and support a flower with a stone to create a stunning artwork. Use your imagination and add other items to complement the display; place it by a window and experiment with how a flower will naturally bend its stem to face the light — the choices are endless.
Three colors available —blue, yellow and grey — each with different shaped indents, and all are equally charming.
