When we came across Buoy, we were blown away by its dedication to reducing plastic pollution. Not only has it invented a way to melt together scraps of countless different resins into a new material without any bonding agents— a notoriously difficult task — but it even organizes its own beach cleaning collection. Aside from a protective film coating, Buoy items are made completely from marine waste!

These square trays use plastic sourced from Niigata in northwest Japan, where much of the waste washed up on the shores is blue. In fact, different areas of Japan finds itself polluted with different coloured plastic waste — red and green from Fukui and yellow from Kanagawa.

To see more, take a look at our Buoy collection.

Based in Yokohama, Buoy is a recycled plastic homeware brand with an unusual aspiration. By recycling marine plastic waste, it aims to contribute to the cleanup of the world’s oceans, with the hope that eventually there will be no plastic pollution to source its material from.

Buoy organizes its own litter collections, and shreds and recycles plastic litter into homeware using a patented process that can meld together different resins. No bonding agent or pigments are added, and its products’ vibrant hues are the result of carefully colour-sorted plastics.
