LILY PAD & BAMBOO GLASS PLATTER (MID CENTURY) SOLD OUT

A verdant green platter from Showa era Kamei Glass, this handmade piece has details a photo can't do justice. Its glossy green surface and unusual shape give it the appearance of a giant floating lily pad. But look closely, beneath the sheen lies a striking pattern of Japanese bamboo stalks.

The detailed image is pressed into the back of the thick glass, giving the piece not just an unusual design feature, but a texture that feels great in the hands.

We also love that the series by Kamei, which sadly shuttered in the late 1980s, is called Ai - meaning indigo, possibly a reference to the green colour indigo dyeing also produced and a reference to an era when the words for blue in Japan was often used to describe the colour green. This particular shade of green was, apparently, historically popular in Japan.

Take a look at our other Kamei piece, a decorative patterned platter in the same green. Or for something simpler, our contemporary Lake Green Platter.
