Trinket tray or a dish to serve a special treat, this Showa (1926-1989) Arita porcelain small plate bears a Japanese emblem of purity and protection — irises, gently swaying across a striking blue background.

Look closer and real beauty shines through. Its indigo edge that melts into a pale blue in the center is a transparent crackle glaze that subtly catches the light.
