The celadon blue crackle glaze of these vintage Shigaraki-ware dishes is mesmerizing. Made in Kyoto using a traditional Japanese technique called Kan-nyu, each dish is unique, its crack lines created by the expansion and contraction of glaze during the firing process. Here, the crackling is layered with an earthy red glaze accentuating the pattern further. Beneath the silky smooth glossy surface the cracks appears three-dimensional. It’s like peering into the depths of a frozen landscape.
Rarely used by their previous owner, these unusual diamond-shaped dishes are in pristine condition.
