Minimalist and elegant, Nishiyama's Fosco collection is deceptively simple. Each piece is top glazed in a matte colored finish that's still luxuriously smooth to the touch. Made in fine Hasami porcelain, they are also light in weight, making them ideal everyday tableware.
Based in Hasami, Kyushu, an area with a history of over 400 years in ceramics, Nishiyama established its first kiln in 1865 and has been passing down its wisdom for generations.
Specialising in contemporary works using traditional techniques, it produces diverse styles of ceramics and has collaborated with various well-known designers. Yet there’s still a family feel to Nishiyama’s show space and shop. Housed inside an old warehouse that was once used to produce porcelain, and filled with copious designs — from minimalist to Nordic-style patterns — it’s a wonder to visit.
